The recent Gujarat panchayat elections have been a significant event in the state’s political landscape. With a high voter turnout of 73.12%, the elections saw the participation of over 1.5 million voters across 27 districts. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the leading party, winning 736 seats out of a total of 1,155. The Indian National Congress (INC) won 322 seats, while independent candidates won 97 seats.
The elections were marked by a significant increase in the number of women candidates, with 35% of the total seats won by women. In terms of demographic analysis, the winning candidates had an average age of 42 years, with 60% of them being between 35-50 years old. The majority of the winning candidates, 70%, had a educational qualification of graduate or above. These statistics indicate a trend towards younger and more educated leaders in rural Gujarat.
