The recent Kerala assembly elections saw a significant increase in voter turnout, with 74.02% of eligible voters casting their ballots. This marks a 2.2% increase from the previous assembly elections in 2016. The election commission reported that a total of 1,39,12,649 voters exercised their franchise out of the 1,88,27,908 eligible voters in the state. The increase in voter turnout was observed across all districts, with the highest turnout recorded in the Wayanad district at 79.14%.

The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) won 99 seats, while the United Democratic Front (UDF) secured 41 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to win any seats, but did manage to increase its vote share. The election results have been seen as a reflection of the state’s strong democratic traditions and the commitment of the people to the electoral process. The increased voter turnout is attributed to the effective awareness campaigns conducted by the election commission and the enthusiasm among young voters.

The commission had taken several measures to encourage voting, including the use of social media and the deployment of voter facilitation centers. The results of the election have been welcomed by all parties, with the LDF pledging to continue its development agenda and the UDF vowing to play a constructive role in the opposition. The election has also highlighted the need for greater representation of women in the state assembly, with only 11 women candidates being elected out of a total of 140 seats. Overall, the Kerala assembly elections have demonstrated the strength of democracy in the state and the willingness of the people to participate in the electoral process.
