The Nagaland Election Commission has launched a series of voter awareness programs aimed at educating citizens about the importance of voting in the upcoming state assembly elections. The programs, which began on February 10, 2024, will run for six weeks and cover all 60 assembly constituencies in the state. According to officials, the initiative is expected to reach over 1.2 million voters, with a focus on first-time voters, women, and marginalized communities. The commission has partnered with local NGOs, schools, and community groups to organize workshops, rallies, and door-to-door campaigns.

As of February 20, 2024, over 50,000 voters have already participated in the programs, with many more expected to join in the coming weeks. The commission’s efforts have been praised by local leaders, who see this as a crucial step towards increasing voter turnout and promoting democratic participation in the state. With a total of 2.1 million registered voters in Nagaland, the commission is working to ensure that every citizen exercises their right to vote in the upcoming elections. The voter awareness programs will also provide information on the voting process, electoral laws, and the importance of voting in shaping the state’s future.

By educating voters and promoting awareness, the commission hopes to achieve a higher voter turnout and a more inclusive democratic process. The programs are being conducted in local languages, including Nagamese, Ao, and Lotha, to cater to the diverse linguistic population of the state. As the election date approaches, the commission is intensifying its efforts to reach every corner of the state and ensure that all voters are informed and empowered to participate in the democratic process.

The outcome of these programs will be closely monitored, and the commission is expected to release a detailed report on the impact of the voter awareness initiatives after the elections.
